SARAWAK CUISINE

- umai sarawak -

     Sarawak is a state which rich with its own cultures, traditions and the most important thing is the food itself. Thanks to the numerous cultural influences, the cuisine in Sarawak is both creative and delicious(Dining Out in Sarawak, 2013). Eating is serious business to do there, whether you dine at the nicest restaurants or the most humble street-side stalls. 

    There are various of food in Sarawak which depicts the uniqueness of the cultures and traditions in Head Hunter state . Further more, the various food found symbolises the ethnics they present.There are more or less 27 ethnics can be found in Sarawak, one of the most popular food for Melanau ethnics is umai.

     Umai is a raw fish salad and a traditional working lunch for the Melanau fishermen(Sarawak, 2010). It is prepared raw from freshly caught fish such as tenggiri, mackerel and umpirang. Umai is served with the present of sliced onions, chilli, salt and even lime to make it tasty. To make it complete, normally umai will be accompanied by a bowl of tasted sago pearls.

     It is not hard or complicated to prepare this kind of dish. It is simple dish but it will make those who taste it for the first time longing for it every here and then. First, we have to fillet the fish and cut into smaller slices. After that, add in sliced onion, red chilli, shallot, ginger, bunga kantan as well as lime juice. Then, mix it with salt and sugar and also groundnut. Before you serve it, you may refrigerate it for minimum an hour.

    According to Sarawak Tribune, umai is a big hit at Ramadhan Bazaar (July, 2013). They, umai trader make things easier by using the ready packed ‘fish fillet’ which are available at the shopping malls (Abdullah, 2013). This is because the big number of buyer who visit their stall. The best part of umai which make it is easy to be sold is that umai does not involve cooking.

    Melanau is famous for their delicious food. Kaul is the right time to sample some of the Melanau delicacies(Special Cuisines, 2010). With their ancestors of being fishermen, it comes as no surprise that most of their food involves fish. Umai, spicy raw fish salad marinated in lime is the Melanau signature dish. 

    

Teeth

     Everyone has teeth. Teeth is one of the major aspects that we really need in our daily life. Without teeth, life will turn upside down. A lot of things we can do with a healthy teeth. Sum more, teeth makes us look perfect because it lies in between your smile.

     I have experienced a very bad toothache for a few times. It was not a good feeling when everything seems to be problem to you when you are facing toothache. I still remember that I slapped my sister because of hurt that I had due to this teeth. I totally could not control my emotion and my hand simply landed at my sister's cheek. I was being scolded by my brother after all.

     Last month, I faced the same thing for almost one week. Nothing much I can say, I felt like punching my own cheek for the whole week. Furthermore, I did not really want to see the doctor because I afraid she or he will take my teeth out. I really love my teeth, I cannot believe I will loose my teeth in my very young age, I cannot accept it and that is why I decided not to go.

     This week the problem came again. For this time I did not have any choice, since the fasting month will be starting soon, so I just went to see the doctor. I took leave on Tuesday. When I arrived at the clinic, there is butterfly in my stomach, felt like straight away going back. But, I just pretended that I bold enough to face all this.

     When my name was called by the officer, I stepped into the room nervously but thanks God, I saw a female young doctor was waiting for me. She checked my teeth and found that there was one hole at my teeth. She did not want to take the teeth out but decided to cover up the hole using special cement for teeth.

     I really happy she did that, she just want to test whether the cement can lasts forever and prevent the teeth from being assasinated by germs or not. For that reason, we set up an appointment to see the progress. So, I will see her in two month times which is on 10th September 2013.

Healthy teeth

     I want to give an advice that we should appreciate and take good care of our own teeth. Teeth is a compliment in our everyday life. Without teeth, many things can appear son. Eventhough, it is only about teeth, small thing but believe me teeth is everything. 

Superb Birthday

Superb Birthday ! 

    I was born on 30 June 1994. I am very grateful because He gave the chance to me to see the beautiful world we have today. I use the chance given wisely to dig every knowledge and experience that I gained throughout my short period of life in this world.

     As usual, everyone wants to celebrate their birthday, same thing goes to me. But in my family, we do not practice that kind of culture. It is rare for us to celebrate ones birthday. But this year, it was something different and delightful for me. Someone took the initiative to celebrate my birthday, i love the moment that we spent together.

     It was started from night of 29 June 2013 until the memorial date itself. We went out and having dinner together. After that, we bought two slices of cakes from Secret Recipe to be eaten during the first second of my birthday. Gosh, nothing I can say. The person just so sweet and I do not know how to appreciate her.

     Right after we ate the cakes, she gave me another surprise which made me touch at that moment. As I remember, there was no one gave me birthday present for the whole of my life. That's why I do not want to receive it at the very first place. She gave me a branded watch that I will always remember. Even if it's not my birthday, she still give me something. Very kind-hearted person I ever met.

     The next day, on 30 June 2013,we continued celebrate. I took her to go out with me and treated her my favourite food which is laksa sarawak. She really love it and able to finish the laksa. After that, she brought me to cineplex and we enjoyed watching movie together. The movie was White House Down, really awesome movie.

     My nineteenth birthday was superb awesome for me myself. I will remember those moment for the rest of my life. I have to learn to appreciate the person because she is willing to do everything for me. Hopefully, she is the one who will make me happy and feel being loved.

Time Constraints

     Time constraints is the matter of lacking of time due to the very pack schedule. As what I can see, this kind of thing can bring about advantages and disadvantages to the individual.

     Last week was a very hectic and busy week for me whereby I had to do every single little thing within one time. This is because I was involved with the orientation for junior, preparation for Hari Guru as well as farewell ceremony for our beloved director.

     There were 31 new students who divided into two groups, Pendidikan Seni and Teaching English as Second Language (TESL). They are the choosen group because from what I know they are among 400 000 students who applied for Ipg, but sad to say that only 1000 something students are being accepted. A lot of activities we as Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar did for them, just to make sure they aware of the rules and regulations in this international institute.

     Hari Guru is being celebrated every 16th May every year but different with Ipg. We celebrated it late because at that period of time,all student busy with examination. A lot of time being used for the preparation for Hari Guru with the help of new students. Again, I didn't get enough time to rest and sweet but because of responsible I have to do it sincerely.

     Farewell ceremony for director was one thing that needed much monitor and attention from us as the MPP. We have to make sure that everything will go smoothly as what we planned. Right after Hari Guru's celebration in the morning, we have to organise the farewell ceremony in the afternoon. I almost turn insane but I am so grate that God still give me the strength to face all the problems and hard time.

     Eventhough busy, I still able to attend classes and managed to settle all the task given by lecturers even it was not in a perfect work. Feeling of sleepy was there during the class but I just made myself busy to cover up the feeling.

     In short,time is very precious, valuable and cannot be bought with money. We have to be wise and cunning in managing the time so that all things can be done in the allocated time. In addition, we should be fair and responsible person whereby we should know how to go about the need and the must.

     Early marriages are normal things than happen nowadays and we can say it as a trend for the young generation.As the reminder, we should know that there are pros and cons regarding to this matter.

 

   First is about relationship. Even if we marry at young age but we already have the knowledge of building up a family, so there should not be a problem to the couples themselves. This is important because without the knowledge, the relationship will not lasts so long and indirectly it leads to the separation of the famiy. Therefore, there is a need for couple to attend a course before marry just to make sure they have the values of loving the relationship.

 

   Apart from that, we should see this matter as a positive thing. Early marriages can prevent all those bad social problems to be happened. Introduction of all modern tools nowadays affect the capability to think wisely and critically for the teenagers. As example, marriage can avoid teenagers especially to get involved with rape cases as well as to involve with other problem. In order to have a long lasting relationship, the couples should have good intention before building up the family.

 

   In the other way around, we can see early marriages can lead in divorces. It is all about the chemistry between the couple. If we get married at young age, it means we will see the same face, attitudes and habits for many years. For those couple who do not have mutual understanding, they will fed-up with each other and it will end up in divorce. It goes back to our immaturality that make insane decision in a very hard time.

 

   Besides that, early marriges can lead in divorces due to the certain problems. The most common problem is financial problem. This is because they do not have fix income to support the family needs such as to buy milk for baby and to give pocket money to the wife. This matter can disturb their emotion and feeling especially to the husband. Eventuall, the young husband will take easy way to get out from this problem by divorcing their wife. It also can lead to problems where the husband overpowering their wife and start to injure them.

 

      In conclusion, I am not agree if we say that early marriages more likely to end in divorces because nothing is impossible. The thing is we should be a responsible person to the God, parents, soulmate as well as the society.
