Effects of The "Balik Kampung" Phenomenon
'Balik kampung' can be defined as going back to one's hometown to celebrate a festival or an occasion. It is a unique experience for some of us in Malaysia. However, it can arouse a lot of bad effects to those who facing it such as getting involve in accidents, rising the number of deaths during festive season, traffic jam as well as causes pollutions.
One of the bad effects of the 'balik kampung' phenomenon is it causes the number of accidents on the road rising which indirectly lead to the existence of sense of anxiety among the holiday makers. Careless, feeling of eager to reach home, fail to plan the journey wisely are some of the reason why accidents happened. Therefore, each and everyone of us should play a role to ensure this problem to decrease.
Besides that, this kind of phenomenon also causes the rising number of deaths during festive season due to the big number of accidents happened. Most of them rush back to their hometown so that they are on time for celebration. They will drive like daredevil and go beyond the speed limit. Some driving recklessly, others overtaking illegally. All these will lead to accidents and fatal sometimes.
The 'balik kampung' phenomenon also lead to the traffic jam whereby many people unable to plan their journey nicely. Every federal road, highway is congested with vehicles moving bumper to bumper. In this situation, most of the holiday makers are caught for a few hours. This makes them feel frustrated and irritated.
Finally, without we realise this phenomenon also causes the pollution to be occured which can be divided into air pollution and sound pollution itself. The smoke from the cars effect the air with chemicals stuff while the sound of car horn totally disturb sense of hearing. Be cunning and patience while facing this kind of problem.
In conclusion, all the effects stated can be reduced if everyone of us has the responsibility to deal with it. Do not be selfish on the road and most important thing be a considerate person because festive season is not a death season.
